<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of easily controlling the gain of a receiver with a variable gain amplifier circuit to a specified value. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A receiver includes a variable gain amplifier circuit for amplifying an inputted signal. The receiver further includes: a control means for switching to one of two amplification modes that are a first amplification mode for amplifying the signal while excluding a control signal inputted to the receiver and a second amplification mode for amplifying the signal while including the control signal inputted to the receiver; and a measuring means for measuring signal strengths in two amplification modes, respectively. The control means is configured to control a gain of the variable gain amplifier circuit in such a way that a difference between the signal strength in the second amplification mode measured by the measuring means and the signal strength in the first amplification mode measured by the measuring means becomes a specified value.
