PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiographic apparatus for attaining both convenience when using a detection unit in a portable manner and high functionality in fixedly using the detection unit, and to provide a control method for the apparatus. SOLUTION: The radiographic apparatus includes: a radiation generation unit for irradiating a subject with radiation; a detection unit for photographing the radiation image by detecting the radiation from the radiation generation unit, which transmits the subject; and a control unit for controlling the radiography by the radiation generation unit and the detection unit. The detection unit includes: a first connection means to be used for connection to the control unit when used so as to be portable; and a second connection means to be used for connection to the control unit when fixedly used by a support unit, and then, detects whether connection is performed to the control unit by using either the first connection means or the second connection means so as to determine a photographing operation on the basis of the detection result.
