PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive control device and a drive control method of a movable member, appropriately determining the operation of an active damper without setting up a dedicated sequence, and to provide a printing apparatus. SOLUTION: The drive control device includes: a driving means (21) that drives the movable member; a position detecting means (54) that detects the position of the movable member; a drive control means (56) that controls the drive of the driving means (21) in accordance with the position of the movable member, detected by the position detecting means (54); and determining means (61 to 64) that determine whether or not the vibration of the movable member (13) is damped by the drive control means (56).
