<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine for a snowmobile in which a starter motor is arranged so that the position of the center of gravity of the engine is close to the position of the center of gravity of the snowmobile including its occupant, and the maintenance of the starter motor is easily carried out. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The snowmobile 10 has a pair of right and left skies 55 on a front side of a vehicle body, steers the skies 55 via a steering shaft 48 arranged in front of a saddle-riding type seat 27, is equipped with an engine 14 in a cowling 11 to cover the front side of the vehicle body, and runs by driving crawlers 41 arranged on the rear side of the vehicle body. The engine is equipped with a cylinder shaft of the engine 14, inclined forward, and a starter motor 77 is arranged forward of and above the shaft center 32a of a crankshaft 32 in side view.
