<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding member of a sewing machine which has a heat treatment layer formed on the surface of a base material for preventing release of a coating film formed on the surface of the heat treatment layer. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The heat treatment layer is formed on the surface of a shaft part 7b of an upper looper table 7, and the coating film X is formed on the heat treatment layer by a known sputtering device. The coating film X is formed of a chromium layer A, a chromium-tungsten carbide inclined layer B, a tungsten including diamond-like carbon layer C, and an amorphous diamond-like carbon layer D, which are layered in this order from the heat treatment layer on the surface of the shaft part 7b of the upper looper table 7 toward the surface layer of the coating film X. When the upper looper table 7 is elastically deformed with heavy loads, the chromium-tungsten carbide inclined layer B flexibly follows the deformation. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
