摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily manufacturing a retardation substrate having optical compensation capability solving a problem of a phase difference occurring when displaying multi-colors in high quality in a liquid crystal display. <P>SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the retardation substrate provided with a substrate and a solidified liquid crystal layer formed on the substrate and provided by corresponding to display pixels. The method includes: a process for forming a liquid crystal material layer patterned by applying a liquid crystal composition containing an optical polymerization or optical crosslinking thermotropic liquid crystal compound and an optical polymerization initiating amount blended in different amounts in each region corresponding to the display pixel on the substrate in each display pixel; a process for carrying out exposure on the entire face of the patterned liquid crystal material layer; and a process for obtaining the solidified liquid crystal layer different in each region allowing a degree of alignment of the liquid crystal compound to correspond to the display pixel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
