The method involves determining a position of center of gravity of a vehicle. Side force coefficients of wheels of the vehicle are determined using tangential force of the wheels, slip of the wheels and wheel-specific constants. A value for driving stability of the vehicle is determined from the speed of the vehicle, the determined position of center of gravity of the vehicle, the determined side force coefficients of wheels, a vehicle mass and a vehicle moment of inertia around a vehicle vertical axis. An independent claim is also included for a driving stability determining device comprising two processing units.
