The device has a locking bolt locking a function-relevant component i.e. steering wheel column, and moving between two positions. The bolt is brought in blocking contact with the component, in one of the positions, and stays in outer contact with the component, in other position. An electrical and/or electronic circuit (1) controls an electric motor (2) that drives the bolt. The circuit has a locking power supply path (5) and an unlocking power supply path (6) that are switchable by switching elements i.e. MOSFETs (3, 4).
