5-AMINOLEVULINIC ACID DERIVATIVE AND ITS SALT

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) derivative and its salt, which can increase the amount of intracellular protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) accumulated without increasing the dose of ALA to improve the effect of photodynamic therapy (PDT). Ž<P>SOLUTION: The stabilized ALA derivative is represented by the formula (wherein Q is a monosaccharide residue or an oligosaccharide residue and n is an integer of 2-8) and is expected to easily bond to the sugar recognition site of a cancer cell by introducing an alkylene chain as a spacer between 5-aminolevulinic acid amide and a sugar.
