<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intercom system for condominiums in which if a sensor outputs a failure detecting signal but it may be caused by a malfunction, a caretaker is not immediately notified of failure. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A biological monitor is mounted on the body of a resident to detect the failure in a physical conditions such as the number of pulses or standing or lying posture information. The biological monitor 7 is wirelessly connected to an adapter 8, to which a life failure sensor 6 is connected, for notifying a living-room master unit 3 or a caretaker's room master unit 4 of failure occurrence. Upon receipt of an failure detecting signal from the life failure sensor 6, if a signal being received from the biological monitor 7 meets predetermined condition, the adapter first sounds an alarm of only the living-room master unit 3 and delays or does not implement the notification to the caretaker's room master unit 4. If the failure detecting signal is received from the life failure sensor 6 but the signal being received from the biological monitor 7 does not meet the predetermined conditions, the caretaker's room master unit 4 is notified of the failure without delay and an alarm is sounded.
