<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spherical surface acoustic wave device that has a simple structure, is readily manufactured, and can precisely detect strength and phase of surface acoustic waves excited for rotation in a peripheral circuit of a surface acoustic wave propagation substrate regardless of ease of manufacture. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The spherical surface acoustic wave device 10 has a substrate 12 that is toroidally and continuously composed of at least one portion of a spherical shape and includes a surface acoustic wave peripheral circuit 12a, where the surface acoustic waves can be excited, the excited surface acoustic waves propagate in a direction in which the ring continues, and rotation is enabled, on an outer surface; a substrate support 14 for supporting a region except the peripheral circuit on the outer surface of the substrate; and an excitation/detection means-support 20, that supports an elastic deformation member 18 supporting a surface acoustic wave-excitation/detection means 16, allows the excitation/detection means to abut on the peripheral circuit on the outer surface of the substrate via the elastic deformation member, and elastically deforms the elastic deformation member.
