<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device capable of saving electric power while maintaining essential functions of a wall-hung picture and a photograph. <P>SOLUTION: The video display device 2 includes a storage unit 25 storing still picture data, a video display unit 24 which displays a still picture on the basis of the still picture data stored in the storage unit 25 or displays video associated with a broadcasting signal, and an optical sensor 210 which detects lightness of external light, and controls the operation of the video display unit 24 according to the detection result of the optical sensor 210. Further, the video display device 2 includes a second control unit 21 which stops the video display unit 24 when the quantity of light detected by the optical sensor 210 is less than a threshold, and drives the video display unit 24 when the quantity of light detected by the optical sensor 210 is not less than the threshold. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
