<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a torque sensor of the magnetostrictive type which has a simple structure, reduces magnetic interference between magnetic cores, increases the sensor sensitivity, and determines the torque application direction. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The torque sensor includes a pair of yoke ends, a yoke-connecting part for connecting them, and four magnetic cores having a core for exciting the yoke-connecting part in the circumferential direction of a rotating shaft. In the magnetic coil, the line connecting the centers of the end faces of the yoke ends makes a predetermined angle with the axial direction of a rotating shaft to be detected by the torque sensor; the coil is wound around the opposing two yoke-connecting parts; and the coil is formed so that the coil middle part between the yoke connecting parts passes through the rotating shaft side of the other yoke-connecting part.
