<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide glass which has low thermal expandability, can be melted at a relatively low temperature, preferably has an average coefficient of linear expansion at 0-50°C of ≤25×10<SP>-7</SP>°C<SP>-1</SP>, more preferably ≤15×10<SP>-7</SP>°C<SP>-1</SP>, most preferably ≤10×10<SP>-7</SP>°C<SP>-1</SP>, and does not contain a crystal phase as a constituent phase. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The glass contains, in terms of oxides, one or more components selected from B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, ZrO<SB>2</SB>, P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>, Ta<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>, Nb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>, WO<SB>3</SB>, MoO<SB>3</SB>, TiO<SB>2</SB>, NiO, Fe<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, Co<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, CeO<SB>2</SB>, Eu<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and ZnO, SiO<SB>2</SB>, Al<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>and CuO, and contains ≥80 mass%, in total, of these components, and has an average coefficient of linear expansion at 0-50°C of ≤25×10<SP>-7</SP>°C<SP>-1</SP>.
