With a recording and reproduction device, 3-D compressed video data recorded on an optical disk are reproduced by a recording and reproduction unit and are restored to baseband 3-D video data by a codec. A format conversion unit converts an optical disk recording format to an HDMI transmission format matching the display capability, acquired beforehand, for a display device and outputs the data. A format conversion unit in the display device converts a 3-D video data transmission format received via an HDMI cable to a display format. A display control unit displays the 3-D video data that have been converted to the display format on a display panel.
