[Also in Division H2] A connector unit forming part of a plug and socket connector is made by placing pins 11 crimped to leads 12 in a mould, injecting synthetic resin such as polyvinyl chloride around the pins, and allowing the resin to set. The pins are formed from a metal blank (Fig. 1, not shown) rolled into a tube, and the crimping serves also to close one end of the tube, minimizing the loss of resin. The moulded unit may include socket connectors 14 projecting from the flexible body 16 and encased only by individual sleeves 19 integral with the body. This construction is stated to provide adequate resilience of the sockets to allow for misalignment of the pins of a corresponding connector. The webs between the sleeves may be omitted. |
