<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication system capable of preventing opportunity for authentication data tampering while avoiding increase in installation cost. <P>SOLUTION: The authentication system comprises: an information terminal 20; an external storage device 10 connected to the information terminal and capable of externally controlling the information terminal; and a management device 30, 40 capable of performing authentication for an access request from the information terminal. The external storage device stores medium-unique information, acquires medium-unique information when the information terminal is activated while the external storage device is attached thereto, and controls transmission of the acquired medium-unique information to the management device through the information terminal.
