<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for monitoring driving state, capable of improving the extraction accuracy of the characteristic points from the face image whose conditions change, in accompaniment of the change in the traveling environment of a vehicle. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The device 1 for monitoring driving state is provided with: a facial image sensor 11 for acquiring the facial image of a driver; a driving operation detecting sensor 12 and a periphery monitoring sensor 13 for acquiring the driving information; and an ECU 10 for calculating a characteristic point group, configured of the combination of a plurality of characteristic point candidates for configuring the face of the driver based on the face image of the driver, and for calculating likelihood which indicates certainty that the characteristic point group is each site which configures the face for each characteristic point group based on the driving information, and for extracting the characteristic points, based on the likelihood. Since the driving information is information different from the information of the face image itself, the ECU 10 is able to calculate the likelihood, without being affected by the change in the state of the facial image.
