PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tire side tread having high elasticity and excellent low heat build-up property without detracting processability, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the same. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a tire side tread comprises a 100 pts.mass diene-based rubber, that is comprised of an at least 30 pts.mass natural rubber and a 5-70 pts.mass modified butadiene rubber, and 5-60 pts.mass carbon black whose nitrogen adsorption specific surface area (N<SB>2</SB>SA) is not more than 50 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and the pneumatic tire is made by using the composition, wherein, the modified butadiene rubber is made by performing reaction of a specific ketimine silane compound with a polymerization-active terminal of a polymer obtained by performing solution polymerization of a butadiene monomer using an active organometallic catalyst.
