<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To print an index image including information useful for a user in printing a list of document files. <P>SOLUTION: When content data belong to a file to be printed as a list (file 1), an index image is created from information recorded in the content data. When the content data do not belong to the file to be printed as a list, and there is no content page in a document (file 2), a character string of a headline is extracted from the document, and an index image is created by aggregating the extracted character string of the headline.
