<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information display apparatus capable of performing a character display which can be easily read during daytime and night without breaking the shapes of characters or the like. <P>SOLUTION: The information display apparatus is installed outdoors, which selectively causes LEDs, arranged in a dot matrix, to emit light, thereby displaying information, for example, characters, numbers etc. In the apparatus, the number of LEDs that emit light is increased during daytime, thereby displaying the characters in thick letters, and the number of the LEDs is decreased during the night, thereby displaying the characters in thin letters. The number of the LEDs for the daytime is increased to display characters in thick letters, and also the characters are displayed with intense light in bright surroundings on account of sunlight. Accordingly, the displayed characters can easily be read. In addition, since the numbers of the LEDs for night is decreased and characters are displayed in thin letters, off-LEDs among on-LEDs forming characters are increased. Accordingly, the off-LEDs are clearly visible among the on-LEDs emitting intense visible light during daytime.
