PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operation of an instrument by providing indication to the user of an arbitrary surgical event. SOLUTION: An apparatus for application of surgical clips to body tissue is provided. The apparatus includes: a handle assembly 102 including a trigger 108 and a drive bar, the drive bar being reciprocally translatable by the trigger upon the actuation of the trigger; and a shaft assembly 104 extending distally from the handle assembly and defining a longitudinal axis. The shaft assembly includes a housing; a plurality of surgical clips disposed within the housing; a jaw mounted adjacently to a distal end portion of the housing; a pusher bar to be reciprocated between a proximal position and a distal position; and an advancer plate disposed within the housing to be reciprocated between the proximal position and the distal position.
