<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-dimensional photonic crystal laser high in spot symmetry of laser light. <P>SOLUTION: The two-dimensional photonic crystal laser includes: a two-dimensional photonic crystal 15 where, in a plate-like member 151, multiple different-refractive-index regions (vacancies) 152A-152D each having a refractive index different from that of the plate-like member 151 and having the same shape are cyclically arranged; and an active layer formed on one side of the two-dimensional photonic crystal. In the two-dimensional photonic crystal laser, the different-refractive-index regions are arranged at lattice points of a lattice having the same cycle at least in two directions; the different-refractive-index regions have shapes different in feedback intensity with respect to directions of two basic reciprocal lattice vectors; the two-dimensional photonic crystal has a cyclic structure in terms of a supercell 154 including a plurality of lattice points; the total of the feedback intensities by all the different-refractive-index regions 152A-152D in the supercell 154 are set equal to one another in the respective directions of the two basic reciprocal lattice vectors. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
