<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diesel engine by which an operator of a working machine connected to the diesel engine has no uncomfortable feeling in working, when regenerating a particulate filter. <P>SOLUTION: The diesel engine 2 has an exhaust emission control device 1 and a control means 41 capable of optionally selecting any control method among isochronous control or droop control. The exhaust emission control device 1 has the exhaust emission control particulate filter 10 arranged in an exhaust passage, and a pressure regulating valve 61 for raising the temperature of the particulate filter 10 by applying a load to the diesel engine 2 for forcibly regenerating a particulate gathered in the particulate filter 10.
