<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tripod-type constant universal joint decreasing the number of manufacturing processes by reducing the weight of a leg material and also simplifying the forging of the leg, and also to provide a method of manufacturing the joint. <P>SOLUTION: The method comprises a step of forging by restraining tip corner 32 of the leg axis blank 54 by a metal mold X. In this case, the tripod leg blank 54 restrains a part including the major axis side of ellipse at the tip corner 32 by the metal mold X in such a state that a recess 35 is provided on the tip side of the metal mold X. In the metal mold X, an inner wall of the part which restrains the tip corner 32 of the tripod leg blank 54 has a tapered surface 33. By means of forging, an edge portion which makes a transverse area small toward the end side is formed in the part including major side of ellipse which is closer to the end of outer peripheral surface of the tripod leg, and the tapered surface is formed on the end side from the edge portion.
