摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL (electroluminescence) device wherein a cathode can be reliably decoupled by barrier ribs, when laminating organic layers in an application method, and to provide a method for manufacturing the organic EL device. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method for the organic EL device comprises an organic layer forming step of using a printing, discharge or transfer method to form at least one of the organic layers constituting an organic EL layer, including an emitting layer on an organic EL device substrate 1 which has a substrate 2, a first electrode layer 3 formed on the substrate, and the plurality of insulating barrier ribs formed on the substrate on which the first electrode layer is formed, to define a decoupling region which decouples a second electrode layer 7 into a plurality of parts, the barrier ribs, each consisting of a plurality of small barrier ribs, provided in parallel with one another, at predetermined gaps. The gaps between the small barrier ribs are adjusted so that t height t<SB>1</SB>of the organic layer at the end of the small barrier rib on the side of an emission region is greater than a height t<SB>2</SB>of the organic layer at the end of the small barrier rib on a side opposite to the side of the emission region.
