<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing halogenated isoquinolines by improving the problems of the conventional technique. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the method for producing halogenated isoquinolines represented by formula (4) (wherein X<SB>1-4</SB>are each hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine or iodine) by subjecting benzylidene amines represented by formula (3) (wherein X<SB>1-4</SB>are the same as defined above and R is methyl, ethyl or propyl) to cyclization reaction, a Lewis acid is used as a cyclization reaction catalyst.
