The present invention relates to novel uses of 4,17&bgr;-dihydroxyandrost-4-ene-3-one (hereinafter 4-hydroxytestosterone), to a process for their preparation, to pharmaceutical compositions containing them, and to the use of said compounds for the prophylaxis and/or treatment of breast cancer in mammals irrespective of the estrogen-receptor status of the tumor.
