<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display apparatus that exerts control for obtaining super resolution for a video by use of only a video display device or video reproducing device. <P>SOLUTION: A digital television receiver 11, serving as the video display device, and a video reproducing device 91 are connected by a two-way communication means for transmitting/receiving a control signal. When the digital television receiver 11 informs the video reproducing device 91 of the presence of a super resolution function, the video reproducing device 91 turns off a super resolution converting processing section 914. In addition, the digital television receiver 11 transmits the video reproducing device 91 a command to turn off the super resolution function, and the super resolution converting processing section 914 is tuned off. Such a control avoids the digital television receiver 11 and the video reproducing device 91 performing the super resolution converting processing in double, relative to a video displayed on the digital television receiver 11.
