<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a metal adsorbing material, which has the performance equal to or higher than that of the metal adsorbing material produced by using natural polyphenol as a raw material, by using raw materials to be supplied stably and to provide the metal adsorbing material. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the metal adsorbing material comprises the steps of: dissolving a base material, which is obtained by bonding an alkyl group and a plurality of hydroxyl groups to a benzene ring, in a required reaction solution; adding peroxidase and hydrogen peroxide as a reaction assistant to the obtained solution; and keeping the temperature of the resulting solution within around 10°C to around 60°C, preferably, within around 20°C to around 40°C so that the base material is polymerized by an enzyme reaction to obtain a polymer.
