<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device capable of adding a following document bundle to a paper feeding part without causing a jamming error and a double feed error and the like while documents are left in the paper feed part during the time that the documents are fed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image reading device is provided with: the paper feeding part 100, in which the plurality of documents are set, having a paper feed roller 104 for feeding the plurality of documents 90 that are set; a pressing member 101 for pressing the documents 90 of the paper feeding part 100 to the paper feeding roller 104; a detection means for detecting whether the pressing member 101 presses the documents 90 of the paper feeding part 100 to the paper feeding roller 104 or not; and a control means for controlling drive of the paper feeding roller 104 based on a detection result by the detection means.
