PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus adopting a rotary system, which yields excellent image quality, and achieves downsizing of an apparatus body and reduction of cost. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a photoreceptor drum 2, developing rollers 182a to 182d, developing devices 18a to 18d, and a nearly circular rotary 102 integrally supporting the developing devices 18a to 18d and capable of rotating in a forward direction with respect to the rotating direction of the photoreceptor drum 2, and is constituted so that the respective developing rollers 182a to 182d successively abut on and separate from the surface of the photoreceptor drum 2 by the rotation of the rotary 102. In relation between circumferential speed of the photoreceptor drum 2 and the circumferential speed of the rotary 102 when the developing roller 182a abuts on the surface of the photoreceptor drum 2, develops an electrostatic latent image, and separates from the surface of the photoreceptor drum 2, the circumferential speed of the rotary 102 is set to be >0 and <1 when the circumferential speed of the photoreceptor drum 2 is determined as 1.
