<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a secondary battery capable of enhancing safety with high battery capacity maintained. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The secondary battery is provided with electrolyte together with a cathode 21 and an anode 22, with the electrolyte impregnated in a separator 23 fitted between the cathode 21 and the anode 22. The cathode 21 has a cathode active material layer 21B on a cathode collector 21A, and the anode 22 has an anode active material layer 22B on an anode collector 22A. At least either the cathode active material layer 21B or the anode active material layer 22B contains fibrous inorganic material made of aluminum oxide or silicon oxide, with an average length of 110 μm or more and 100,000 μm or less and an aspect ratio (average length/average diameter) of 410 or more and 10,000 or less.
