<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To much more easily detect inconsistency of management information of a storage medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: There is provided a printer 1 which reads and prints data from a recording medium 20 storing data in accordance with an FAT file system, an ISO9660 file system or a UDF file system. The printer includes: a file system management part 71 for accessing the storage medium 20 according to the file system; and a printing mechanism 10 for executing printing based on the file read by the file system management part 71. When at least either a directory entry of a current directory in a management region of a sub-directory or the directory entry of a master directory does not exist, a file system management part 71 stops retrieval of the designated file.
