PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily recognize an observing position even when a specimen is observed from an oblique direction. SOLUTION: The observing device includes an objective lens 105a or 105b. A lens barrel 106 is provided with an optical system for obtaining an optical image of a specimen 101 placed on the placing face of a stage 102. A control section controls the aperture diameter of an aperture diaphragm 112 provided in the optical system based on the angle of the inclination of the optical axis of the optical system relative to the placing face, to control the depth of the field of the optical system.
