<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To evaluate, without fail, whether a clear picture of an object is photographed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An object extraction part 21 generates an object map showing a region including the object in an input image by using the input image, and supplies it to a decision part 22. The decision part 22 obtains the degree of paleness of the region of the object on the input image, by using the input image and the object map from the object extraction part 21 and calculates the scores of the input image, based on the degree of paleness. This scores are obtained as an index for evaluating, to which extent the object is clearly photographed in the input image. The present invention is applicable to image pickup devices.
