PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely estimate a distance between a mobile station device and a base station device when there is an obstruction, reflection and the like in communication between the mobile station device and the base station device. SOLUTION: A mobile communication system including a mobile station device 101 and a base station device for performing communication by adaptive modulation includes: a reference distance estimation part 110 for estimating the distance between the mobile station device 101 and the base station device on the basis of a modulation system adapted for the communication between the mobile station device 101 and the base station device and a modulation system having reception sensitivity one step higher than the modulation system; and a propagation time estimation part 111 for estimating a propagation time of a communication signal transmitted from one of the mobile station device 101 and the base station device to the other. The reference distance estimation part 110, when a distance difference between a distance estimated by the reference distance estimation part 110 and a distance between the mobile station device 101 and the base station device to be calculated on the basis of the propagation time of the communication signal is a prescribed value or larger, re-estimates a distance between the mobile station device 101 and the base station device on the basis of the distance difference further.
