METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETERMINING A PREDICTION MODE

PURPOSE: A determination method for a prediction mode and an apparatus using thereof is provided to predict the prediction mode of a current block using prediction mode information of a previously encoded reference picture. CONSTITUTION: A determination method for a prediction mode comprises the following steps: determining the prediction mode of a block for a reference picture in the same position with a current block of a current encoded picture(710); determining a first prediction mode candidate group to be operated regarding the current block by the determined prediction mode(720); and performing a prediction encoding regarding the current block by applying the determined prediction mode of the first prediction mode candidate group. A first prediction mode with the smallest error is determined to be applied to the current block(730).
