Pile fabrics composed of a cotton backing and pile threads of a polyacrylonitrile basis are dyed by applying as a maximum dyebath application liquor which approximate to the swelling capacity of the cotton backing plus the water retaining power of the capillary force of the pile followed by steaming. Preferably the pile fabric is squeezed after dye application to a moisture content not exceeding 115% of the air dried weight of the fabric. Basic dyes are used for the polyacrylonitrile and direct or acid dyes for the cotton preferably in a single bath process followed by steaming and washing. Continuous processes are specified.</p> |
