The assembly has a friction element i.e. movable disk (76), connected to a housing of a gear box (14) through an actuator (80) at three positions. A brake (70) includes friction members e.g. fixed disks (72, 74), integrated to shafts (36, 38). The actuator positions the friction elements to rotate freely with respect to the friction members in neutral position of the brake, and positions the friction elements to be in contact with one of the friction members in active position of the brake. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a transmission assembly.
