1,153,150. Tube expanding; jointing. W. W. MOUNT. 1 June, 1966 [7 June, 1965], No. 24501/66. Headings B3J and B3W. [Also in Division F2] A joint between two pipe sections 10, 11 is effected by force fitting an end of one pipe section within an end of the other. The end of pipe section 11 which receives an end of pipe section 10 is provided with a flare by means of a frusto-conical extension 28 of a forming ring 27. The latter is urged towards section 11 by hydraulically actuated pull-bars 18, 19 which together with grip pipe rings 12, 13 and clutch rings 14, 15, respectively, also keep the pipe sections in alignment. After the flare has been formed the ring 27 is removed and the sections are urged together by the bars 18, 19. The flare may be provided during manufacture of the sections and the latter may be hammered together. |
