1,082,084. Endless-belt conveyers. AMERICAN MACHINE & FOUNDRY CO. Feb. 21, 1964 [Feb. 25, 1963], No. 7525/63. Heading B8A. A pair of endless belts 1, 2 carries a continuous stream of cigarettes 4 under bars 5 to prevent their piling up upon one another under the influence of a stop 6 mounted on a spring 7. The upstream parts of belts 1, 2 are supported on fixed bars 9, downstream parts being supported on pivoted .bars 10 normally maintained level by a spring 11 and stops 17. A pair of fixed rails 12 is arranged alongside bars 10. Build-up of cigarettes 4, as shown in Fig. 4, causes the stop 6 to yield against the spring 7 and operate a microswitch 13 which controls a solenoid 14 to cause a head 15 to be urged downwards to swing bars 10 about pivots 16 so that the ends of the downstream cigarettes become supported on the rails 12 (Fig. 5). Pressure in the batch is thus reduced so as to avoid crushing. A counting device (not shown) may be situated upstream of the stop 6. |
