PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide ashless dispersants having excellent dispersibility of insoluble deposits generated in a lubricating oil such as sludge, and having a slight increase in viscosity of a lubricating oil composition. SOLUTION: A lubricating oil additive includes an oil-soluble polymer (B) having a functional group (F) including a nitrogen-containing onium cation at the terminal of a hydrocarbon-based polymer (A) having a number-average molecular weight of 500-5,000, in which the nitrogen-containing onium cation is a quaternary ammonium cation or an imidazolium cation.
