PURPOSE: A retainer for a gate valve is provided to increase the lifetime and durability of the retainer by maximizing the water-tightness between a disc and the retainer when a valve is closed. CONSTITUTION: A retainer for a gate valve comprises a plurality of recesses(7), an incline(8), a cushion ring(9), one or more cyclic inserting projections(10), a flange(12) and a reinforcement plate(11). The recesses have a water flow hole(6). The incline is formed on the outer one side edge which contacts with a disc of the retainer. The cushion ring is installed inside the retainer between the incline and the recess. The cyclic inserting projection is formed fro, the outer edge portion of retainer. The flange is formed in one side of the retainer. The reinforcement plate is installed inside flange.
