The method involves providing a consumption unit (1) e.g. catheter, with a type-specific detection-code for usage in a medical device, and storing the detection code in combination with user-identification and determination of a user condition. Data for selection of a design of a supplementary module (30) i.e. casing, for the medical device are provided based on the user condition. A request for supplying the supplementary module is generated based on the selection of the user, where the casing partially surrounds the medical device. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a medical home-monitoring system for analysis and therapy of a diabetic patient (2) a computer or network with a program for selection of designs for supplementary module for a medical device (3) a database for processing of data for selection of designs for supplementary module for a medical device.
