The present invention relates to the use of a carbohydrate-containing composition having an effective pH of 4.5 or less and comprising at least 1.0 percent by weight of an {alpha}-amylase digestible, {alpha}-(1,4)- linked polymer of glucose as a source of carbohydrate, in which composition the concentration of mono-and di-saccharides is no greater than 2.0 percent by weight, in the preparation of an orally administrable composition for the reduction or prevention of tooth damage by plaque acid production.
