PURPOSE: A focusing position detecting apparatus, a photographing apparatus and a focusing position detecting method are provided to increase detection accuracy of a focusing position during focus control. CONSTITUTION: A driver(143) and a motor(144) operate a focus lens from one end to the other end as the first operation during focus control. The focus lens is operated about a location where a contrast value becomes a peak value during the first driving as the second driving and proximity of the location. An iris controller(126) controls a light amount applied from a photographing surface from a subject image during the first driving based on an iris value. The iris controller controls the light amount based on the iris value used in photographing during the second operation.
