A carrier 5 for a spool of labels in a handoperated machine for printing and applying the labels is pivoted at 4 to the casing of the machine. This permits the carrier to be swung back when a fresh label strip is to be threaded. The labels may be secured by pressure-sensitive adhesive to a carrier strip and the printing, feeding and applying may be as in Specification 1,137,848. The used carrier strip 29 may be deflected from the feed wheel 23 by a curved guide 28 with a protuberance 27. Movement of the operating handle 25 may further serve to release a pivoted brake 18 gripping the strip of labels against a curved flange 9 on the reel carrier. A wire guard may protect the mechanism. |
