958,624. Pressure exchangers. POWER JETS (RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT) Ltd. May 8, 1963 [May 17, 1962], No. 19152/62. Heading FIN. The high pressure outlet port 22 Fig. 1 in an end plate 11 of a pressure exchanger 8 having a self driving cell ring 9 is connected by ducting 24, the hot pass 41 of a heat exchanger 42 traversed by cold fluid in a pass 43 and ducts 46, 23 to the high pressure inlet port 21 of an end plate 12 to which compressed air is fed from lines 1, 2 and an injector nozzle 3 and during starting a portion of high pressure gas is vented from duct 24 through a poppet valve 25 upstream of exchanger 42 thereby attaining a steady intermediate cell speed. As shown the vented high pressure gas is fed through a retractable injector nozzle 19 projecting into the low pressure inlet duct 15 in which is located a plurality of fixed curved guide vanes 17 at the entrance to the inlet port 13 and which serve to impart to the entering air a suitably directed component for driving the cells 10 in the direction of arrow 60; a useful output of cool air issues from a port 14 and a duct 16 within a ventilating duct 35 Fig. 6. The high pressure inlet port 21 is provided with a pivoted blade 47 connected by gearing to a pneumatic piston supplied by air from a bleed pipe 48. The latter also supplies air to a diaphragm 49 which at a predetermined pressure rise in duct 24 serves to close a valve 53 thereby cutting off air supply to a retractable auxiliary nozzle 5 in duct 23. The pressure exchanger 8 is secured to the heat exchanger 42 by clamps 92 and the exchanger 42 is clamped by brackets 93 to the ventilating duct 35. |
