PURPOSE: A portable electronic device including a touch screen and a method for controlling the same are provided to enable a user to use a new keyboard and to continually input a data. CONSTITUTION: A first orientation of a portable electronic device is adjudged(102). A first virtual keyboard and a first data display region are rendered on a touch screen display(104,106) based on the first orientation of the portable electronic device. The change to a second orientation from the first orientation of the portable electronic device is automatically detected(114). A second virtual keyboard, a second data display region, and a data which is previously displayed on the first data display region are automatically rendered(116,118).
